Too much pop makes you burp

I went to see Shen Wei Dance Arts last night. The first half was Rite of Spring. The second half was an original work. The photo is from the original work.

I'm taking a break from pop. Some people have begun to complain.

The incredible dancers of the Shen Wei Dance Arts spent a lot of time in Rite of Spring walking around. They walked around in a very clenched way, as if they really needed to go to the toilet and were trying to walk to the bathroom as quickly as possible without jolting anything.

While I was not watching them I was watching the audience who were transfixed. It is very odd indeed that a theatre-ful of people will pay $88 each to watch people walk around. I don't say this to be smug because I also found it quite interesting.

When Eleanor was born I was amazed to find that one of the first things babies learn to do is laugh and smile. When she was able to stand one of the first things Eleanor did was dance. Music comes on and she starts to boogie. Firstly: amazing! Secondly: why?

I quite like dancing. I went to the seventh form ball last year and danced. I think most of the students thought I was drunk. Men dancing is not a common sight in New Zealand. The strange thing is that most of the 17 year old boys who were all dressed up at the ball looked as though they wanted to dance. There is a peculiar male facial expression at balls: "look at me I'm all dressed up and sophisticated" crossed with "I don't really know what to do". I suppose it's the expression of a fish out of water. Because I was the only male teacher dancing I was surrounded by female teachers. Most of the male students were quietly impressed. Afterwards they said: "I saw you pimping on the dance floor, mister." I think this was intended as a compliment. Just to be clear - I wasn't pimping.

I looked very silly at my seventh form ball and I didn't dance.

Shelley used to keep count the number of times we had danced so I try to make more effort these days. I minded a boy with severe Downs Syndromme (among other things) a few years ago... for a day. He couldn't do much, communication wise, but he danced when he was happy. Interesting.
Do one armed people dance?

Will Cathy be dancing for joy because you're going back to school tomorrow?

Be warned, JY... if you enjoy dancing, you could be gay.
